HOW TO CURE PANIC, ANXIETY & DEPRESSION
One day, out of nowhere, I, a perfectly happy, relaxed, 54-year old unemployed, single hippie, healthfood eating vegetable growing mother with high rent and four children, suddenly developed a full time case of panic, anxiety and depression. I couldn't figure out what had caused it. Menopause had come and gone without one single symptom of any kind. What was this?
I looked at my life, struggling to see if maybe there were any new conditions. There were. The state had yanked AFDC for the last of my four children as he hit l8 so that income was lost ditto food stamps. My longtime screenwriter boyfriend had left me for a young blonde actress. My own screenplay of an optioned book was definitely not causing any interest in Hollywood and oddly, simultaneously, I had become allergic to my longtime best best pal, coffee. Just one cup in the morning and I couldn't sleep a wink that night. It took me two days to throw off a little java.. However, besides those few, little details, everything else was normal. So I was puzzled. And puzzled people do not solve problems. I had ONE YEAR of this kind of panic. I began to think that it was WHO I WAS, that it wasnít going to go away.
I subliminally felt that this achey-breaky anxiety was directly related to a LACK OF SLEEP OR OXYGEN, and sleep was the one thing I could probably control, I began my battle against depression with sleep producing herbs taken at bedtime. I expected this would be let me sleep more, but thatís about all. However, lo and behold, I had stumbled upon the cure for my depression and panic which instantly departed after being omnipresent for a year.
FIRST is the QUICKIE TRICK: When DEPRESSION is thick like MUD, your heart feels like WORLD WAR II had just ended, in the center of your chest.. get some ripe oranges, juiced, 1/2 cup is all you need. DRINK it affirming aloud "I am taking in the power of the sun, its capacity to give bliss and joy." In ONE SECOND entire depression left. REAL ORANGES, ripened 3 yrs on tree. most farmers pick 2nd yr when fruit looks ripe. so only organic. weekend farm market?
Here is what I did to make the tendency toward depression leave permanently. I recommend this MAGIC METHOD if you're troubled and blue full time.
1.) PURITY- Healthfood diet, eat no lamb or veal (animals who are babies SUFFER KEENLY separation from mother,) drink lots of water, faucet water is fine. No thinking of that SWEETHEART who broke your heart, or sex thoughts either. Allowing no jealousy or envy in your mind, All that's corruption. FOR THE ACME GURU on MIND CONTROL, POWER THOUGHTS, REARRANGING your BRAIN MOLECULES read the MASTER JULES. That alone can stop a depression dead.
2. THE PRACTICE OF JOY -Why would God help you if you're a no fun sadsack? God stays away from ugly personalities. The sadsack people on this planet are disturbing for angels, spirits God and other helpful souls, powerful ones and medium ones........and you reek in a way that no spirit can be near you. GRIEVING shows you have no faith! It's obvious you're self-centered if all you do is moaning groaning. So you get no spiritual help from above. So FAITH is a healer. BELIEVING that there's "AN ABOVE." The BUDDHISTS tell us that we can have joy independent of circumstances, environment, events. Google this phrase, "joy independent of" and + Buddhism and you'll find great sites that will give you the head trip, beliefs of the Buddhists related to ENDING SUFFERING.
3) CONSTANT AFFIRMING your joy. FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT. Do what I do, gratitude for hot water and a tub. I mean, I really underscore that. THE gorgeous GARDEN. That my little kitty Carolina survived the cat flu that can kill so many and went on to have three lovely SONS. THE ATTITUDE of gratitude bouys up the practice of joy.
4.) SERVE the UNIVERSE. Take note that this place is not fully evolved. You can forward the action. Do it. Write those articles, Get that 5$ a month website. Work at daycares, or giving parties to raise cash for a daycare to gift scholarships to latch key kids. This will get you into CEO's offices, make you some really fine, new pals. Raise $ for Africa, for a church that already does a SKID ROW MISSION DAILY MEAL. That kind of thing. Become the legs for an extant charity. Feed homess folks in the park (while it's still legal. Cities are actually starting to make it ILLEGAL. But create a group that does it and make a big ruckus over that!)
5.) TAKE SLEEP DEEPENING "HAPPY" HERBS, dream with the angels. I used herbs that are easily available: skullcap, valerian, hops, passionflower, vervaine, (available at any HFS) brewed into tea, taking 1/2 cup at bedtime, the rest sipped during the night, as I awakened. I brew the herbs into a strong tea and put it next to the bed. Because I was hypoglycemic and hunger tended to wake me during the night, and I need to eat, I also addded chromium piccolinate in a tablet and LICORICE ROOT both of which soothe the pancreas and prevent that low blood sugar feeling of ravenous appetite. (WARNING: If you have tendency toward HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, stay away from LICORICE.) Otherwise, make the brew, take it at bedtime. One capsule of Cal/Mag/Zinc also, as it really deepens sleep! Lengthens it! "A full eight and you feel great! Less you're a mess." Some pals say use melatonin but I find it makes me groggy next day. A Sleep Aid I recommend is ZOLPIDEM the generic ambien, 5m a night, bite tablet in two. Avoid fast heartbeat of Unisom similar formula.
If you have passionflowers growing, brew the flowering tips and leaves and when you're jobless, fired, abandoned, freaked, lonely or things are eating at you and you feel that black hole open up under your heart, --don't visit gypsies or matchmakers, don't fire your agent. Add leaves to your herb tea and catch some zzzzs. Add poppy bolux and you dream in chinese and see emerald tailed lyre birds and pagodas!
The amazing thing is that JUST the extra few hours of sleep can cure the condition of panic, anxiety and depression. SO STUDY THE INSOMNIA CURE.
There are people whom sleep won't FIX! For them, the mega-doses of the B spectrum vitamins are recommended, in particular, Niacinimide. (dose is 1500 3 x a day). Large doses of this vitamin are not tolerated if there is liver damage. But you can get the entire B SPECTRUM if you eat calves liver, fried in onions, very lightly, YUMMY as can be. VEGANS have to use dried liver in capsules as George Bernard Shaw did, or no B-12 ever. ALGAE doesn't have it.
6.) USE the HERBS that the experts recommend. Nothing like a friend who has 'fixed' her own depression. A friend had months of depression which she swore passed the second she took L-THeANINE. She wrote: The "suntheanine" form seems to work with GABA and lifts my Seratonin levels. I believe my family tree has suceptibility to being deficient in these and the omegas - flax, chia seeds, essential oils and aminos, etc. B vitamins needed, along with all healthy foods. There were some very high anxiety days for me... sheer panic days. Hormones play a huge role. So, i am taking royal maca root powder. an
adaptogen that regulates hormones. It comes from peru. And l-theanine also DHA and flax oil or fish oils
low coffee (i now stop by 1pm) oat bran mixed with chia seeds for fiber punch, both can go in my whole oats. Then I love sardines. For Omega fish oils. Sometimes make fruit drinks with some good quality green powder or do it as capsules as I feel I have a lack of enough green salads at times.
7). SUSPECT THE THYROID. DEPRESSION is often a feature of a LOW SECRETION of THYRODOXINE, from thyroid gland. Glands do wear out and your own thryoid may be a little off. OVER secretion wears you out too and can cause depression.
So, luckily there are easy to find herbs that help the THYROID to regulate itself. You can get them at any healthfood store, or thru mail order. Health Mags have plenty of suppliers. Or, you can grow them. Seedsmen sell seeds to SOME of these: Black cohosh root, licorice, false unicorn, siberian ginseng, sarsaparilla, squaw vine, blessed thistle. Chromium, niacin, magnesium, B complex. AND MOST IMPORTANT, though you can't grow it, KELP and other seaweeds. BLADDERWRACK is one of these, and is very effective but take no more than a quarter gram of powder a day. That's half a capsule! More is too stimulating.

IMAGINE A CYCLONE of rainbow light high above your head, whirling thru the body, down into the ground, carrying your reactive muck away with it and burying it deep in the soil.
As it goes thru each center, see it.
"I am the soul;" (imagine this light whirling around top of head)
"I am the light divine;" (imagine light around third eye)
"I am love " (light around heart)
"I am will" (Light in solar plexus,belly)
"I am fixed design." (light at bottom of spine)
Imagine more light going into knees Then, imagine this cyclone of lighting passing down through the soles of your feet carrying with it the 'stuff' and burying all your 'psychic junk' l0 feet down underneath the ground!
Afterwards, get on the phone, call a pal to come play with you. The highest Yoga of all is the yoga of ecstasy and the highest thing we can do with another person is RECREATE. I'd call my chum say 'let's go eat tamales at the Mex market, or let's go shopping the sales. Let's hit the beach, stand on the rocks and fish for bass and sculpin. Homebound? Surely you have Monopoly, Scrabble or a deck of cards? How about a chess board? You'll recall how much fun games are. Lure a partner in by making cookies! Or go bowling.
Control your mind. THE MASTER JULES website has all his teachings; they can totally create bliss consciousness. It's a new way of thinking. When you're following his paths of thinking and having fun, repeatedly empty yourself of expectation or the DESIRE to have fun or be happy. DESIRING or WANTING something is the same as admitting you are lacking it. Become one with the joyous adventure bombarding you, free of 'keeping score' or doing a head check.
THE way to be RESCUED from the thoughts, the constant babble INSIDE OF OUR HEAD is to become absorbed in what's OUTSIDE of our head. The here and now erases the inner yammer and scorekeeping which keeps us insane, stressed and blue. I watch kitties play. I garden and recommend it for endorphins! THE FREE AND EASYGARDENING SECRETS INDEX. Trowel around en le jardin. Pick seeds and pack them for giving away.
So remember: no thought, no desire, no attachment to effects which only makes you 'try' to control events. Be totally empty. DESIRELESS. Just 'see stuff' out there. See how it is. How it is is how the Universe wanted it, challenges and all. Truly ravish with your eyes: the lovely streets, the trees, the library, the babies playing in the park. The 'free stuff.' Drive thru the suburbs where the air is sweet with greenery, or if you've got a beach or lake, or nature, drive through it on old, country roads. When you are too bummed to move from bed, clean your aura by doing the CYCLONE envisualization, then, call a friend or turn on the t.v. and trip out on this incredibly beautiful, diverse Creation.
OTHER THOUGHTS- A Metaphysical master told me "foot baths are anti-depression; people walk around all day...their feet carry them here/there. we all attract, like a magnet, energy from zillions of people, around us...then go home wondering why we're depressed. Their 'vibe' is stuck on us, so washing feet upon arriving home EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE and espec. before bed, is vital for sanity..........get rid of all that energy floating around the cemented sidewalks of this universe. Walk in nature...barefoot if possible where there's no chemicals been sprayed, no snakes, no deer ticks". Do not wear black when depressed. Use color therapy." She probably means wear power colors. BLUE one day, ORANGE the next, etc. ROSE . YELLOW. Rainbow colors.
LONGTERM CURE FOR GENUINE DEPRESSION- ONE is CRY. WEEP. Read the important book, The PRIMAL SCREAM by Art Janov. He states that going full into the pain, BREAKING that repression of pain, into the EXPRESION of it, helps you go thru catharsis, also locate, identify pain sources. Ideational pain sources. And reckon with them. Even the act of yelping and screaming releases tied up, bound energy and makes you feel better. DEPRESSION is usually blocked anger. Get small pillows, or (google the word) " BATACAS" and have a friend draw out your repressed anger while you pound the sofa. Confronting hidden Rage and Wound are the two PRIMAL SCREAM METHODS. If it's rage, you need BATACAS or teddy bear shaped/ sized PILLOWS as who'd knock around a sweet teddy? Also get the USED BOOKS OF R.D. LAING online, used. HOW TO GET USED BOOKS VERY CHEAPLY and READ in bed til sleep hits. Read mysteries, very engrossing.
NEXT, Let the power of the universe inside your bloodstream, too. ADD SUPER FOODS to your diet: Oranges, beets, fennel, watercress, B-Complex tablets and B-Complex rich TOFU, available at CHINESE grocery stores, made from a white bean which is higher protein than any other: the soy bean. The Chinese found a way to make it into a kind of steak or 'cutlet'. I'll enclose my best tofu recipes here. It is a fairly ALIVE vegetarian PROTEIN, not dead, like meat. It won't rot in your gut. There are no hormones of fear in the beans at the time of their slaughter. Of course there are other live proteins: sprouted seeds, beans, raw nuts, avocados, but I am crazy about tofu and I got that way ordering Tofu in Brown Sauce with Black Mushrooms at chinese restaurants, and dotting it with their mustard as I ate it on white rice.Black mushrooms (shitake) are regarded as medicinal in China. Very powerful! Get them dried at Chinese markets and make this dish yourself, often.
Raw or cooked, do keep on eating Healthfoods, taking your herbs, vitamins, eating sunflower seeds, learning to make sprouts, serving raw salads, and for dessert, making a fruit salad, and leaving the bowl in the fridge, all appetizing, or putting it in little cups after dinner, served up pretty. Keep on quitting all dead, meat, flesh, and over cooked foods which make your body, DE-nutritioned, heavy, lifeless and sad. REMEMBER, All the SUFFERING that is in the penned animal pre-slaughter. One reason it makes us blue to eat it. Use herbs like Gingko instead of coffee/tea. Stimulates the intellect without that coffee jag tension. Take soothing herbs: St. John's Wort is available at healthfood stores. It supposedly banishes depression.
Next, ACCELERATE your WASTE REMOVAL-When you start in-taking nutrients, also let cells get rid of ancient wastes. Try a week-end of raw juices made on the juicer machine, carrot, celery, a tiny piece of beet and some anise or fennel juice (that wild licorice will do) mixed with 2 tsp lemon & some psyllium or metamucil or those new colon cleanser herb mixes that come in big jars. You spoon them into juice between meals and stir well. They all have psyllium mixed with laxative herbs. Or, take an herbal laxative capsule at bedtime every night. Use a friend or relative to get daily deep tissue (hard) massage on your whole torso, with oil on skin so it doesn't pull...which causes toxins to be loosened, depart thru liver. Always oil the skin so skin doesn't get pulled as you work. Go Buddy system, one massaging the other. Take steams, (tub will do in a pinch. Put 2 cups vinegar in the hottest water you can sit in, after 1/2 hour your pores will really release toxins.) Find ways to sweat-exercise, perhaps in the sun. All these accelerate the process of getting the toxic thoughts and atoms OUT of your body.
OTHER WAYS TO INHALE LIGHT: Rub skin on whole body with vegetable oil, (cold-pressed almond or peanut from healthfood store is the best, olive is great....coconut fab...but not canola...) lay in sunlight, and don't wash oil off with hot water and soap. ONLY cold shower for l0 hrs after you get exposure. Vit D and mystery properties of sunlight are reabsorbed.
WALK OUTDOORS. Neg ions out there happy us up! Walk the dog. Take a bag so you can snip cuttings from the neighbor's flowering bushes. That's how I got Arab Jasmine, Night blooming jasmine, Crape Myrtle trees. When you get some money, get a negative ion generator. (See healthfood magazines or google the words) They purify home's air, cause ALIVENESS to be drawn into one. Avoid all electrical fields, no electric blankets, cell phones, they microwave heat brain. Sleep east west, not north south.
TOTALLY QUIT ALLERGIN foods: meat, nightshade family, potato, tomato, eggplant. PEANUTS.
QUIT BLOOD SUGAR AGGRAVANTS: sweets, refined starches, flour, bread, cakes, booze, caffeine, sugar, coffee, roller coaster food. What goes UP must come down. Thatís only logic. THE UP is provided by these foods, the DOWN in humans is arranged by the excretion of INSULIN by the pancreas. Itís a lousy feeling, low blood sugar, depression. Sugar jags up insulin production which doesn't feel good.. Even very sweet fruit can produce this effect. Read ENTER THE ZONE by Dr. Sears who had his father, grandfather die of heart attacks early as blood sugar is related. Doctor has a list of low sugar fruit. (Libraries have this book.). SECOND Problem with insulin flowing all the time, is, when your body excretes too much of it all the time, you are RUNNING out and one day will be diabetic. Read BLIND, amputee!
MEDICATE: St. Johnís wort works for depression, take it several times a day, donít use aged cheese or protein powders as it doesnít combine. Take Kava-Kava, 3 times a day, no side effects. Itís Tahitian happy powder. South Sea islanders use it the way we use beer. If all these donít work, I can find you a list of pharmaceuticals that you can ask a doctor for, that donít have massive side effects. RHODIOLA is what astronauts take, and the VIKINGS took it in the old days. A thousand years ago. Gets ya MOVIN!
EAT LESS DEAD BODIES, MORE VEGIE PROTEINS LIKE: *SOAKED, peeled ALMONDS fresh, raw, not roasted 1/2 cup Soak 2-3 hrs, or overnight. Peel as you eat! Peels are astringent, not good for the gut. *SPROUTED beans, peas, mung beans, sunflower seeds, alfalfa seeds, obtainable at healthfood stores in bulk. Buy only 1 oz of each, sprout small amts according to advice from healthfood store. Eat 2 big handfuls of sprouts a day, in salads, on VEGIE burger sandwiches. Or solo w. salad dressing.*VEGIE burgers. Green Giant makes a NEW brand, there are dozens in most supermarkets and dozens more at healthfood stores. You pop them in toaster, thaw out that way, then slip between two pcs toasted WHOLE GRAIN BREAD, which is also a protein. Add mayo, tomato, avocado, onion-very thin sliced, vegie salt. DELISH!! *WHOLE GRAIN BREADS from healthfood store or of the FOODS FOR LIFE brand if you have it, found at super markets in LA. It's a SPROUTED GRAIN bread very important for phytic acid sensitive, arthritis gene people. WHOLE unsprouted grains the phytic acid cause us to LOSE bone, calcium, as this acid makes for excretion of minerals. In sprouted whole grains, phytic acid is de-activated. Ask your local healer about this. Never take bread made with inferior flours. Sprouted grains are best, stone ground whole wheat or mixed grains (rye, barley, kamut) are also good, When it says wheat flour forget it, it's white flour, hurts HEALTH. NEVER USE ANY WHITE FLOUR PRODUCT FOR YOU OR KIDS. SINUS gets stuffy from it. *AVOCADOS, these are the beefsteak on a tree. Have with a corn tortilla.*EGGS are OK in moderation. A vegetarian can handle a little animal fat. UNDERCOOK eggs. Bring cold water to a boil with eggs IN it, then remove and eat. Power of yolk is weakened by heat. RAW yolks are great but modern chickens often have salmonella, so it's Russian Roulette. No problem. Boil 1/2 cup water. Drop egg and white in....turn off fire. Use a spoon to lift yolk 10 seconds later, use in protein drinks, mayo, cat formula, wherever raw yolks are req'd. Raw whites are not good for you, they bind Vitamin B. I leave it in hot water, until it firms up, strain and add to pet food.*TOFU, which is soy bean curd. *Beans, lentils, millet (the best) or quinoa these latter two are only at healthfood stores. * HUMOUS, a 'dip' made of garbanzos mashed with sesame butter(tahini), lemon, garlic. Great on pita, bread or as dip on celery sticks, baked chips. READ HOLISTIC ARCHIVE.
SO:WHAT WILL MY FOODS BE NOW THAT I'M A HEALTHFOOD NUT?TO REPLACE MEAT: VEGIE PROTEINS-Low fat nuts like nut butters, sesame butter in Humous, or Sprouted ALMONDS, Delicious, crunchy, alive and full of power. HOW: Soak raw, shelled almonds IN WATER FOR AT LEAST 2 hrs, peel off skin and eat right there, or add to your vegie burger recipe, or your fruit salad. You can change water daily, leave nuts soaking for up to 2 days. They 'come alive' in water. Eat them and you do, too. Between meals, SOLAR FRUITS, FULLY RIPE, HIGH COLORED. BY THE POUND! & VEGIE JUICES.
NEW AGE FOODS: HOLISTIC RECIPES FOR POWER & ENERGY
HUMMOUS- This is a middle eastern HI PROTEIN DISH like party dip, (I use it for that) which YOU will use as sandwich spread as it's thick like chicken salad. It's very satisfying and the highest food you could find in calcium due to sesame, hence it replaces MUCUS producing cheese & milk. All bean-based dishes sour in 4 days so we will freeze half of the finished product, making a lot at a time, defrosting 3 days worth at a time.
HAVE ON HAND: One jar/Can TAHINI, (a kind of peanut butter only made w. sesame seeds, avail at fancy supermart, Israeli, Iranian, Arab grocery stores.) Dry raw garbanzo beans, onion, soy sauce, pckg untoasted sesame seeds, garlic, lemons, 1 sml. can chopped olives, cumin, curry powder, Cilantro, Chile-Sesame oil, (oriental section.) Pickle/relish optional.
METHOD- SOAK beans over night. Simmer in crock pot until soft. 20 min in pressure cooker. You have one of those? Lucky you. While beans cook, toast sesame seeds in iron skillet, stirring until they pop. Cool. Reserve most of liquid in beanpot for tomorrow's soup, leave 1/2 cup remaining liquid while you mash beans into a paste. Add 1 part tahini to 3 parts beans, mashing with finely chopped onions, lemon juice, soy sauce. Add toasted sesame seeds to the bean/tahini mix, add a few dashes of chile sesame oil, your spices, cumin, curry, lots of crushed fresh garlic, olives, cilantro and lemon juice. Freeze what you can't eat in plastic, not foil, as there's acid in hummous and aluminum leaches out of foil. Later, hummous thaws good as new. Serve with fat free baked all corn chips or in sandwiches w. pickle/ lettuce/tomato. Kids will take this to school quite happily.
VEGETARIAN MEAT LOAF- ON HAND- 1 cup of your CHOICE OF GRAIN* (soaked 2 hrs. at l00 degrees), garlic, chopped onion, oil, thyme, oregano, chopped celery, celery seed, mushrooms, 1 cup oats, 1 cup soaked, almost sprouted nuts: may be mixed sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, hazlenuts. Other ideas: bell pepper, tofu, cooked lentils or garbanzos, tahini, Salt/pepper & vegie broth. Use a good grain from healthfood store like millet, brown rice, quinoa, (COOK GRAIN, or, if bulgur wheat, soak in hot water 30 min.). Grind nuts. (Almonds must be soaked overnight in water, then skinned) METHOD-MIX your soaked GRAIN, nuts, oats, w. spices, all the other ingredients until you have a burger. Saute onion, garlic, red or green peppers, stir in the other ingredients on top. Then, you can then shape a meatloaf, bake, last five minutes bake w. a little cheese and tomato sauce on top. U also can bake in patty shape. Freeze 3/4 of slices. NOTE: Reason we pre-soak grains, sprout nuts/seeds is to inactivate PHYTIC acid which prevents mineral assimilation.
HOME MADE BREAD- Let pckg dry yeast rise in 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 cup of warm water. Make 3 cups vegie broth by simmering vegies that U-eat for dinner. Add 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 cube butter. COOL. Throw 3-4 cups whole grain wheat/mixed w. rye flour into broth, (a little millet flour is good if U-can find) and a tsp of gluten (avail. at healthfood store) for each cup of flour. Stir so it's very soft, then add, stir in the yeast which has proven it's alive by getting a thick scum on it. Stir more flour into dough until it's mushy verging on firm. Let rise in bowl in warm spot in kitchen, FOR MINIMUM OF 2 HRS, like open oven on super low. 2-hr yeast raising period is to inactivate phytic acid.When doubled in size, turn on dusted board, and knead, as you do, adding several oz. of toasted sesame seeds and salt to taste. Put on buttered floured pizza pan, or four loaf pans, set in warm place until it doubles. Bake at 375 l0 min, then lower to 300 until brown. Cool, Cut into 4 loaves, freeze
3. VEGIE SANDWICH FILLING -(or party dip) Ground sprouted Walnuts, pecans, pre-soaked lentils, cheddar cheese, garlic, soy sauce, lemon juice all blended together. YUMMY! Pre-soak nuts in water, just overnight to sprout them a little, to inactivate phytic acid.
4. TOFU in brown sauce- Get shitake dried mushrooms at chinese grocery. Soak 3 or 4 for 1/2 hr. then cut up and pat dry. Heat oil in wok; Drop in cubed tofu, green onions, halved lengthwise,, the shitake mushrooms, saute for 10 seconds, then add gravy makings made of mushroom soy sauce and oyster flavored sauce stirred with a little corn starch, tsp of honey, some serious raw garlic and any kind of chile. 5. TOFU EGG SALAD for school sandwiches - Mash tofu with mayo, celery, onion, soy sauce, dash chile sesame oil, some toasted sesame seed, pickle relish, green onions, tumeric or curry powder. Put dry leaves of romaine salad on your bread first, then a thick layer of this mix. Close the waxed paper, wrap tightly. Keeps well.
SALAD - THE ULTIMATE VITALITY FOOD- Wash romaine, watercress, spinach, but not head lettuce. Get all dirt out of crevices. Put in colander. DRESSING- Olive oil, lemon juice, crushed garlic, oregano, dash Lea & Perrins Wochestshire sauce, a little dry mustard powder or wet, 2 tbsp crushed avocado and slices of onion, soy sauce for salt, anchovy paste if possible. Mix in large, wooden salad bowl, put greens on top. TOPPING- sunflower seeds, avocado slices, raisins, mushroom slices, hulled pumpkin seeds (only avail. at HFS), broccoli florets, jicama or sunchoke slices, diced green onions, fresh basil, cilantro or arugula herbs. SERVE with stacks of hot, corn tortillas in a basket. Make 'tacos' of salad.
FRUIT SALAD- Cut up oranges, peaches, fruits in season, add raisins, almonds, a whole cup of yogurt, some maple syrup or honey, stir. Coconut's great if you have it. Whiz some almonds in blender, til crunch pieces.
SWEETS- Make dried fruit candy I call 'Pinatas' and store in jar in fridge. Each colored paper cone is filled with ribbon-chopped dried cherries, apricots, peaches, raisins, home-blanched almonds, homemade peanut brittle, and dipped chocolates (red grape center) all made w. no sugar. Larger dried fruits like dates, figs R-stuffed w. nuts or homemade marzipan. (Grind dates, walnuts, blanched almonds, lemon juice, rind, coconut in blender, add almond extract.)
Don't worry about mates, friend and kids not liking the tofu or the whole grain bread. Guess what. It doesn't matter what kids like. Or men. The reality is that they will eat everything you cook, buy and serve if they get hungry enough. Only cook, buy and serve what is good for them and when they demand twinkies or steaks, give them a blank look and say 'I love you too much to buy you food that will cause you to end up in a cancer ward.' Start collecting color pictures of cancer, clogged arteries or those hearts covered with yellow lard from color magazines to pull out, and give them this blank, naive look, like' are you crazy', then ask them point blank "do you think I should give you this?" Then, when they've forgotten those foods, occasionally serve them a steak with a watercress salad, ---as ocasionally, won't hurt them too much.

shelves up the wall, any color or stain they want. Landscaping their yards.
Plant propagation, cloning, harvesting seeds. Doing cuttings. GARDENING for self or pals.

c.) cooking, baking, jam making. PARTY CATERING, very ego enhancing.
d.) ZONING. Watching cooking shows on cable. gardening shows.
e.) tv watching in general, have some fave shows. Mysteries are always gripping, LAW AND ORDER especially with VINCE D'onfrio and Ms Erbe! Also NCIS, THE UNIT, CSI, Cold Case, DATELINE (those murders make you feel lucky in comparison!) All the comedy shows as LAUGHTER heals the body. Dave's LIST OF l0, Jon Stewart. Comedy Channel! I like BECKER re-runs! Fab show! Very witty. Get the DVD if one exists!
f.) Library, books. When you have a good book sitting on bedside table, one you're half way
through, you don't have time to think about yourself or grieve. Mysteries are real good. They are
engrossing. I like Robert Parker, MICHAEL CONNELLY, SUE GRAFTON. and
for political spy thrillers, FREDERICK FORSYTH. Daniel Silva, anything by both of these guys, DAN BROWN Angels Demons & Da Vinci code all free at library. JAMES MICHENER early novels, not the latter year stuff. STEIG LARSSON, ALAN FURST, Isaac Bashevis Singer is real fun to read! A REAL TALENT!
