Is your life a big TURKEY or is it A LIFE where you always spot theTURKEY WHO LAYS THE GOLDEN EGG? How did the word TURKEY get to mean a play that fails? To me the turkey is the most wonderful thing that can happen to a table. But the word has come to mean the opposite of a golden prize. GO figure. Today I was pondering how it is that our SUCCESSES in life come as much from what we CHOOSE as what we REFUSE. Those things that you carefully shy away from and which you even --let go of --can provide great fortune whereas all the stuff you pulled close to your heart can be NEMESIS!
GRABBING and ENCUMBERING ourselves with ownership means weighing ourselves down with STUFF, people, habits and even at times, ideas. What we choose and take into our hand half the time has a dark side. It often will not let us go, later. We become hampered by our choices, which gave us our 'stuff', people or things and hence, we no longer are mobile.
Blame emotional needs, early programming, identifications (what we fancy we are about,) but to some extent, all of these made us choose these things that end up limiting us.
Examine HOW your identifications have you in their power. When you believe that you are a healer, an angel of mercy you will pick up stray cats and you end up with a lot of smelly sick cats, can't go on vacations, can't even move away from your house to a better one as how do you fit ten cat cages in the car? When you believe you are a beauty and a great actress, you move to Hollywood and end up dancing in cafes with some married charmer and waste a few decades. But let us not talk of me. CHOICES are like gates that open forwards but not backwards.
Oh, sometimes you get lucky. Say you believe that you are God's answer to disease, you end up in med school but that does NOT allow for the calamity effect. Because just as easily that belief can end up with you infected from spending a life walking in hospitals with the new antibiotic resistant staph strains, pneumonia, tb, they've all gone antibiotic resistant. So even your lucky son the doctor' isn't safe from the calamity factor of which medicine has a few.
So back to the premise. When you get choose a lifestyle you get stuck in that lifestyle. You chose it or obtained it via your aspirations, need, greed, fantasies, identifications and whatever you signed up for, later you inevitably are not mobile anymore. You aren't free to spot a new opportunity when it comes. You cannot leap ---as you're already weighed down with your old choices.
There's no hope for us but I tell young soldier explorers in the early stages of their life mission to be a.) motivated by the do-gooder impulse so less catastrophes strike. The good are lucky? And b.) to be very clear thinking and focused out of that do gooder impulse so you're magically able to not only spot opportunities but you're free enough to grab the golden ring as it comes around. That's usually when we are young, before the WEIGHED DOWN phase of life starts.
Let's take JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER as an example and he's a great example to study as he shot from impoverished Cleveland clerk (kind of like Bob Crachett was for Scrooge,) to being the planet's first billionaire ---and did it in a decade or so --although it can be demonstrated that John D Rockefeller started building his immense fortune at age seven. John was the son of a traveling salesman father who was away a lot. Between visits, money was scarse and Mom was always short. He adored his mother but what could he do? He was 7 years old.
Well, after school, little John observed a wild mother turkey in a meadow, laying a nest full of eggs. It occurred to him turkeys are unusual, few people breed or farm them, maybe he could do a little ranching. He waited til they hatched, ran home with those baby chicks, put them with his mother's chickens, and when those birds got big from daily feedings of corn, John D sold them for a high profit, with very little cost. Now he had turkey eggs galore. He kept on raising these highly prized birds, saving the money in his mother's sugar bowl and when he had 50$ he did an amazing thing for a child. He lent it to his father's farmer friend to help out of a spot. A year later John got the principal plus $3.50 interest back. He saw the joy his Mother had with these earnings. That cinched it. John decided that he wanted one thing in life: to make a lot of money with which to make his family very happy. A friend is on record of having asked teen John 'what do you aspire?' John answered vigorously, with clarity: "I want to be very rich." But remember, the joy it produced in his home was the real goal.
John had a superior identification! He identified with being a helpful family member and out of that fiery, internalized 'zeitgeist,' spotted opportunities like hungry cats spot mice. He made choices in alignment with his central zeitgeist from that moment on. Like all children, John hung around the harbor district where the action was but he didn't skeet rocks over the waves or eat cotton candy. He liked to observe the men working the piers, levees, the boats, all the busy shippers, traders and the stuff they were trading, the crates of cotton and barrels of grain going out, as he was on the Mississsippi near the fertile prairie but above all, John D was watching the MONEY and thinking of his MOTHER and how she'd love that cash. He saw that immense sums were being paid out, rolls of cash were unfurled for bags of grain, coal, rice and cotton which he realized were valuable if you had enough crates of them loaded on a ship. Traders ruled!
Imagine what was going on in his head as he saw the rich man get out of his phaeton, his buggy, with two horses and a groom waiting on the levee as the Boss went shipside to get a check from another merchant. He watched them go over waybills and sum the numbers. He saw that math and then trade were the two motors of his town. John applied himself to math in school and the day he got out of high school, he wandered down there in the business district, looking for the best job he could have. He'd ask and listen and walk away in search of the right company, the right job. So he knew what to let GO of and stay away from and letting go in this context refers to job offers, potential bosses, as well in a generic sense, letting go of thoughts and relationships with people. He kept a neutral attitude for two whole weeks of his interviewing bosses. He could see which boss was a mean crud, which was a dignified gentleman. The desperate trout leaps and it isn't always a fly. It can be a hook. Attachment and need combine to make all of us leap too quickly, lose patience and stop the search. To switch metaphors need is like fly paper, everything we bump into, all the wrong stuff adheres. LETTING GO is an art, only very high people can do it as 'stuff' is so sticky, attractive, we get hustled, sold a bill of goods, we then become the excuse-making slave of who or what we're stuck to. John D seemed to know not to go in the door at the wrong job.
How many times have you carelessly accepted, tied yourself with friendship, vow, word or deed, even contractually to something you bought paid for, chose, collected and or related to whether sweethearts, pets, jobs, people, friends, but how many times have you made decisions when we should have stayed free and loose to observe further, to choose better.
We could have been unhampered, FULLY IN THE MOMENT with all the power of MYRIAD choice ahead of us. But we collected too much clutter and junk. EVERY SINGLE thing we pulled in, is now ours to wash, clean, carry, store, shepherd, ENDURE and or pay alimony and child suport for and that keeps us from moving toward what we NOW KNOW is the right choice, the REAL choice.
That's what's goin' on with you on SOME LEVEL right now. An obstacle built of your own clutter. Let's think of your home, your room, your property, family, job, job, lifestyle and the person or PERSONS who most bother you right now. That person or situation or event is predicated on the fact that you created that person or event in your life. You got stuck to that thing or person. OFTEN these conditions are fairly unfixable.
There are three things you can do. First is FIX IT, second is --in the future try to live unadhesively. The third thing is to LET go of everything you have or created or attracted at some earlier time. You weren't YOU THEN. You pulled it in out of what you WERE THEN, what attracted you then. NOW YOU KNOW BETTER!
On a metaphysical level, the MIND wanders into strange territories. What it doesn't know is, being GOD in your universe, that MIND creates whatever ticker tape goes thru it. Rockefeller just watched the traders for his teen years, that was all. He listened to them wheel and deal, talk price, talk loading and shipping cotton and rice. So when he went in finally to get that job, he really knew his cookies. He'd been to kindergarten. He was ready to suck up every morsel and piece of information on the job and get thru HIGH SCHOOL on the job. And that of course would launch him and a friend in doing exactly what those traders had been doing in front of him for a decade or so, already.
So, what are you rehearsing, thinking, observing, watching? What is going thru your mind all the time? If you have no structure, no motivation to do otherwise, you are blind sided by the FUN INDUSTRY going on here. You will think about the opposite sex, looking good, style, fashion, MOVIES, CDS, DVDS and you will be creating a big blank spot in your head. When it comes time to attract what you are, you may only come up with a ticket to an amusement park, won in a contest as you were wandering a silly realm.
Let's see how the metaphysical affects the physical world or our reality. If you think about movie stars, or let's be specific, if you think about the outward features of a handsome Brad Pitt type long enough, you'll actually attract BRAD PITT LOOKALIKES, with inner features you hadn't counted on probably.
IF YOU FOCUS on the inner features that you want, say in a mate, ladies. The features are kindness, intelligence, he could come looking like TOM BROKAW but be inside, what YOU BELIEVE Brad PITT IS! FUn on a picnic, Endearing. Fond of you. Hot! FUNNY.
John D. Rockefeller only thought of helping his family with wealth, so he didn't see a turkey nest, he saw 50$ plus 7% interest, and he saw traders and all of it would help his mother who was alone with the kids as dad was away so much. He was trying to repair the catastrophe of their home life as well as he could. For more of what he turned into, read The Rockefeller File http://www.whale.to/b/allen_b.html
But he did use power of mind to create wealth and WHAT THE MIND has running thru it, like a ticker tape, it can and will create. Rockefeller ate slept money and trade, and when out looking for a job, got offered many jobs, but he only took the one involved with the MONEY END of a prestigious trading company, bookkeeper, doing their sums, their salaries, their books. Learning the number game of those shippers and then he leapt into shipping, himself.
You want to go back to the very primary zeitgeists within your mind and get over a lot of the susceptibility you have to temptation. Get back to doing everything, on the most primary level, out of the motive of CHARITABILITY! The last thing you'd expect in a gadzillionaire, right? But often a feature of a hard working poor man who makes it big. Even if it's charity toward his own family. Read up on THE HUNDRED WEALTHIEST MEN WHO EVER LIVED, their bios are a buck each at ABE BOOKS.
The reason to concentrate on doing good with your money is this: the mind has a compass needle built into it. EIther it points NORTH or it points south. You have to be careful about dreaming aloud and fantacizing on the SOUTHERN POINT of the compass cuz some scoundrel of a PERSON OR AN EVENT, (for the sake of our argument here, we don't distinguish between the two,) will definitely be called down on you by Central Casting in either HEAVEN or Hell depending on what's making your motor spin....and he'll look just like what you want. And you'll leap. So if you watch CRIME shows and TV news shows and horror movies and see all those murders and horrid events, and do that long enough, you'll attract some version of just that.
If your compass needle points North and you're selective and read the great philosophers who ponder the problems of humanity and posit solutions, you'll go down that rarely trodden golden road and I imagine guardian angels would protect you from harm as it's a route to heaven. Your thoughts will be your insurance policy.
If you waver between hate and love as say, a Gandhi did, you will battle wars and thru those wars perhaps do God's dictates, and probably you will get a little of both.. Gandhi changed India's fate for the better, freed it from the Nazi Kindergarten it was in, which had DONE CERTAIN GOOD for INDIA, or for those who survived it, anyway...and even with his death, at the hands of a Muslim with a gun, an historical point was made. His asssination hung in the air like a cymbal clap, like the smell of cordite after a bullet is shot, as much as 911 has, which made most sentient people on both sides wake up. So Gandhi's departure was useful to the evolving universe.
But back to you and your quandry. You have a life that you realize is a big turkey, but it's one you created, you built every torture instrument, you built the chains, the dungeon, the scorching hot fry pan, even. And now you see it is an uncomfortable place. A place that hampers you. How can you become the empty traveler on the busy highways of life who will spot the turkey laying golden eggs of opportunity, right under your nose? The way is to DISCARD the TURKEY life you've got and the hot frying pan that your feet dance in. Get free, get relaxed and get more observant, less frantic and way less attached. Now, switch the center of your being's POLE and all your rotating movements around the rent, the utilities, the car payments, cable bills, those consumeristic, sensorial, pleasure-oriented habits, and switch them to some charismatic, selfless motivation. For John D. it was just giving mother some cash. Work from that zeitgeist and automatically, you'll start making some good choices.
