GUILT
is THE MOTOR that keeps us UNLUCKY, so that WE PUNISH OURSELVES 24/7, attract
bad luck, bad people bad events, even RANDOM ones! In
CIVILIZATION AND ITS DISCONTENTS, Freud develops the theory
of the superego, (the judgemental inner patriarch we're all dragging
around, the one who makes us eat broccoli. ) Freud studies the internalization
of aggressiveness ...because our PATRIARCH doesn't want us to get mad,
it's been suppressed out of us by parents since childhood, 'don't blow
up, don't strike, don't bite,' ) and humanity's tendency is to redirect
rage, hitting, biting back onto the ego with the consequent creation of
guilt, which expresses itself as a "need for punishment." And this primal
guilt is, according to Freud, rage against the breast. Oral aggression.
And sublimation of that rage is the origin of a very tweaked civilization.
Supposedly, if we have a need for punishment, it manifests as inflicting
a bad lifestyle on ourselves.
None of us can remember the days when we were angry at the breast, at Mom for how she conducted the whole feeding thing, then the toilet training. But could you go back and remember your first curtailments by civilization and its demands? And how you reacted? And where or when you lashed out or acted out? Could you count the guilts you have? Related to people you love? Those are the worst guilts.. Failure to do things, sins of commission, omission. MAKE A LIST. This is gonna get ugly. But we are doing a CLEANSING OPERATION here, so give it a shot. You will soon have a list of a lot of people who you didn't give enough to. As you loved them, rarely did you betray or hurt. But if you did, it's on the list. NOW, the cleansing involves:
