I understand TV/ basic CABLE and VCR.I am Experienced with them and only them.

That's my tech limit so I am researching how to have better cheaper tv than my 31$ a month DIRECT TV BASIC CABLE

(Seniors need IN-bed time activities involving television itself and books or mending with needle or writing ON PAPER hand written letters to snail mail to folks who don't have computer. There are still some of those!)

So I need to comprehend BOXES and SMART TV ... all that is involved. WHAT EXPERTISE in installation is involved, also. My pal wrote;

How do I set up & use my smart TV?
Connect the Smart TV to the Internet either by plugging the television directly to your router or by setting up the television's wireless connection. Most users wirelessly set up their television. To set up your television's wireless connection, use the remote to go to Menu, then Network, and then Network Settings.
My friend wrote "I've had the huge satellite dish, 13 feet, then later when dishes got smaller, a couple of subscription packages, Direct TV and Dish Network. With all mainline subscription I spent nearly as much time 'searching' for something to watch as I did actually watching. The beginning of the month would be great but after you'd seen the meager offerings you be in limbo. Then came Video On Demand with extra fee. I'd had enough of this crap and dumped both both dish and cable entertainment packages. TV boxes give you CONTROL over content. You do not sit idly by and wait for some 'good programming' to fall in your lap. Those block busters on subscription TV ? I saved so much money without subscription that I was able to afford them on Blu Ray !!! Game of Thrones ? Got it all (except season 7) on Blu Ray.
