STARVATION FOODS WE WILL SOON KNOW WELL, and be glad that we do!

1.) ALPISTE, or CANARY GRASS. Seeds make milk, a little known fact. Healthfooders know it. They grind all kinds of things to make a beverage. DELICIOUS MILK can be made of the most highly nutritive seeds! TRY CANARY GRASS, BIRDSEED!  You'll like it. Easy to grow, too.

ALPISTE is A GREAT FOOD IN TIMES OF FAMINE, HIGHER IN VITAMINS
than SOY OR WHEAT. You soak it overnight, toss water next day,
Grind the sprouting seed in blender jar with some fresh water, juice or milk  If you have it,  strain

2.) Add  a tossed salad of fiddlehead ferns  and you'll see that is all you need three meals a day. No more need for super markets! You get younger, healthier with seeds and greens than you did with meat and potatoes. No more heave breathing.

3.)  COMMON GARDEN WEEDS LIKE BERDOLAGAS (PURSLANE) Mexicans highly esteem this green, will climb into the countryside to find it. The thing grows all over L.A. On curbs. My children used to think I was nuts picking it.

4.) ALLEY FRUITS -All alleys have fruit tree overhang. My jam-making depends on alleys! Marmalade made of Kiwi and lemon rind is sumptious, scrumptious. Never saw a Kiwi growing where I live though. I wait til they're on special, or at the 99c store, get a bag of them.  I make orange marmalade of orange juice and orange peel, wow! Grapes easily turn into jam or jelly. Guavas by the hundred pound hang over alleys near my house. I find it all, free!  FIGS make cookie filling, home made fignewtons!  Grapefruits fall on the ground by the dozen. I knock on the door, say 'the fruit that fell, can I have it?" They tell me to take what's on the branch but I know citrus has to be fully ripe or it's bad for calcium, bones, teeth. I juice it, add sugar, keep a big pitcher in fridge all summer long. So try your hand at alley fruits!

5.) POSSUMS. The other white meat. A marsupial that is easy to nail. For years, my garage has had nests in cupboards producing families, dynasties of them. I found one in traffic, tried to heal it, couldn't. Couldn't butcher it for my cats, had to bury it in the garden. Things would be different if I couldn't afford chicken for the cats.

6. FISHING- Clamming, Crabbing. Surf or rock fishing. Recreational as well as useful for the table. Nostalgia for the Kiddies.

7. CHEESE MAKING-  YOGURT MAKING. If only you had a goat. Soy milk clots easily, you can make great cheese. See the FOOD INDEX.
