I made this feast myself. Grew pumpkins for the pies which ended up costing 1$ each cuz I used milk custard, (cream is way too damn costly). Turkey was 13$ at chain super market with a coupon, (or if you buy more than 25$ worth of groceries that day so I shopped for a senior neighbor too.) Potatoes came from my own yard. Salad too. Ham was 77 a lb. (sale special). I made my own mustard as I grow the stuff. BUCHE NOEL was a classic RECIPE. EGG NOG TOO. These recipes are at XMAS SWEETS page. Couldn't find a coupon for all the cream those two cost me. BUT my Colombian Coffee coupon worked and I ended up spending 2 bucks on java as I only used a quarter can for ten people. Champagne is like paying good money to drink bad piss so I got good two liter Sierra soda which tastes way better. Or there's Chardonnay and Riesling at Trader Joes, 5$ a bottle, two bottles. No fun driving home in the rain hammered when cops are out patrolling. So I wake my peeps up; the coffee wasn't DECAF! My friends all have ambien which is tuff enough to push thru some Colombian brew.Winter holidays have their dangers. HIGH COST and WINTERY, ICY roads. COFFEE at night during a feast which gives Insomnia, then SLEEPY Trytophane-blitzed drivers face Blizzard-highways. Winter is always a challenging SURVIVAL time, even for our forefathers, ergo civilization has always tried to convince everybody there's massive comfort, joy and abundance at winter solstice. It's what we need to believe on the shortest coldest days of the year. We've been chilly and frightened for a few months already, so GIVE A wildly upbeat, sumptuous XMAS PARTY. GIVE FLAMBOYANTLY ABUNDANT GIFTS, make your own Christmas cards, with photos of the holiday decorations around the house and best of all, make your own fruit cake for gifts; serve the traditional foods made sumptuously by your own hands at home. Then you gotta figure out a way to make a party in JANUARY, when we're really fretting and survival is jeopardized, another of course Feb has Presidents' day -- Not much of a celebration. More of a gathering to figure out how we can do a COMMUNAL GUERILLA CAPITALISM VENTURE. Give swap meets 2x a year.
And then Valentines of course. A first meeting for singles would be a good party! March has St. Paddies. But don't liquor up the singles --- Folks are starving, land is still frozen. And nobody has a keg of Irish Whiskey for St. Paddies so WHISKEY FLAVORED ICE CREAM is what I'd do or Whiskey bread pudding on fire. Not drinking hard liquor.
The thing is to find a celebration once a month. CINCO DE MAYO is Tamale night. A FULL MOON need celebrating from time to time. Harvest Festival in SEPTEMBER. Or a birthday. So don't tell them what or why you're doing it, just DO IT.
