Low blood sugar is more prevalent than scientists imagine. Latest estimate is that 45% of us have it. You may call it 'getting the intense munchies,' or 'carb cravings,' but it's a trick pancreas, nothing more, nothing less.
HYPOGLYCEMIA means too little sugar in the blood, 'Hypo' meaning too little, 'Glycemia' referring to sugar or Glucose. If you regularly experience drops in blood sugar, and hunger happening quickly after eating sugar, chocolate, alcohol, fruits, desserts, coffee/tea, you're a HG.
If you have mental spaciness, muscular weakness, frequent 'munchies,' cravings for alcohol, or prefer starches as a food or, if CRAVE sweets---again, you should suspect this condition to exist. (NOTE: the munchies can be caused by intestinal parasites which l00% of us have, so ABSOLUTELY do the 3-week herbal treatment to rule out the possibility it's bugs and also eliminate them.)
Lastly, if you wake at night hungry, or come wide awake at dawn when you really didn't have enough sleep, it's a 'trick' pancreas that is swollen or enflamed, gets that way from any dose of carbs, and in reaction, instantly over-insulinates giving you 'munchies' feelings. Enough years of the pancreas throwing out its insulin at this rate, you run out! That's called diabetes and it requires injections daily, people go blind from it and get their legs cut off from growing numb and gangrenous. NOT A FUN condition! So we don't want to go there.
How to tell if you're headed in that direction? Well, Hypoglycemia is a disease that mimics many other body dysfunctions, among them Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, insomnia, depression, tremors or nerves, parasite-related munchies, sexual fatigue in women and impotence in men. It causes early aging, perpetual munchies, chronic overeating with gain in body weight.
Other adult symptoms of the hypoglycemic are G.I. problems like spastic colon or IBS. Irritable bowel syndrome. People who are cold weather sensitive are prime candidates. A hypoglycemic likes to lie down, read or watch t.v. They don't like to go to the gym, or clean house. They often feel 'brain faint.' The reason is the brain uses more than 25% of the glucose in the blood. When the sufferer lies down, circulation to the brain is better. If these things happen to you, did you ever think you may have an inflamed pancreas?
HYPOGLYCEMIA is hard to diagnose if you're not looking for it. There is a blood test, 6 hours of fasting with controlled amounts of sugar given every hour, and blood samples taken as well and read, but as it's a strenuous test to undergo, and it's a test that's never given unless the disease is actually suspected, and that takes a doctor who's aware. Most aren't.
So, meanwhile, hypoglycemia goes its wicked way, untraced, undealt with, unpublicized and many 20th century big city people have it, caused by modern man's diet of tasty foods that are all 'empty' calories, processed, devitaminized food, chips, white bread, caffeine and sugar INSTEAD of nutritional organically grown fruits, vegetables, natural meats or vegetarian proteins.
Can we look around and tell who's got it? Yes. Students who are resentful of discipline, who can't stand to be put in a position where they can't move, who want freedom, who crave drugs, who are edgy, jumpy, nervous may be undiagnosed hypoglycemics; they certainly are not eating a diet of super foods. Fat, puffy Pillsbury Dough boys are often pre-diabetic.
Diabetics with few exceptions, are hypoglycemics who were not diagnosed. In other words, if hypoglycemia goes untreated, it ends up in DIABETES.
We all know what diabetes can cause in the body: blindness, kidney failure and leg amputation. The disease can also turn into multiple sclerosis or rheumatoid arthritis, holistic healers tell us, so this is a condition we have to stop in its tracks.
Happily, that CAN be done with a healthfood diet, so perhaps you'd be motivated to go on such a diet if it prevents so many health horrors.
NOTE: Your doctor won't tell you any of this. HYPOGLYCEMIA is not the medical community's favorite disease because doctors know of no surgery or chemical pharmaceutical (which they love, as they are totally cued by the drug companies. Conventional docs don't understand cause which prevents their getting a glimmer of a CURE. (Being an allopath-pharmophile who believes Merck Manual is God, The Only Healer, DOES have drawbacks.)
As prevention of any syndrome is always a tad better than curing let's figure out what causes HYPOGLYCEMIA. The holistic community tells us that pancreatic disfunction is produced by denatured food in our diets or in our ancestors' stress, stimulants, artificial rocket-fuel 'chemical' foods like caffeine and sugar which modern man has used only in the last minute of history, and which the body does not recognize as food. Hypoglycemia is commonly found in cases where a baby was premature or had a low birth weight (5 lbs or less) or a very high birth weight (l0 lbs or more). Children who have allergies, asthma, hayfever, dermatitis, eczema or stubborn diaper rash are candidates.One concomitant of hypoglycemia is worn out, blown out adrenal glands. Our adrenals are destroyed by stress, by the modern pace of life. When adrenals go, ragged people turn to stimulants like caffeine and sugar which in turn destroy the pancreas. This condition cannot be cured by chemicals. Only a return to natural diet, vitamins and herbs, can cure the condition, and this is a healing method which conventional medicine does not recognize. To show you how far medicine misses the mark, a hundred years ago, a candy bar every hour was the way the disease was dealt with by doctors. Now we know that is exactly the wrong tack to take. The condition comes from the pancreas OVERREACTING to sugars. Sugar is the exacerbating factor, although caffeine, refined starches, alcohol, fruit and high-carb vegies like potatoes can also cause the same symptoms of blood sugar shooting rocket high, then valley low, but sugar is not the cure for low blood sugar. Totally quitting sugar, caffeine IS. Nowadays the conventional way to stop the progression of the condition and avoid symptoms but NOT to cure it--as no cure is known---involves 6 to 8 mini-meals a day, all of them featuring protein. What conventional doctors don't know is that such a diet would make anybody toxic, if not literally toxemia-ish, swollen faced, and cause kidney problems within a few years. The body needs no more than 20 grams a day of protein and many vegetarians do quite well on less. The old Adelle Davis concept of l00 grams or more is clogging and carcinogenic, DAMAGES KIDNEYS and inspires plaque in the arteries. The proof is Adelle Davis herself died of cancer. Protein should be given in no more than 2 meals, separated by 2 hours from alkaline-digestion, sweet or starchy foods so that it can be carefully and fully digested. Properly combining protein t with alkaline vegetables like dark greens will help keep the important alkaline balance of the body. The exception to the 2x per day rule would be if you have blood sugar insomnia, or wake at night hungry. In that case, have part of part of a high cal corn tortilla with cheese (perhaps made at bedtime) then rinse mouth and go right back to sleep. If you must eat meat, an hour after all meat meals, water must be taken to flush the uric acids from the body. Uremia or Toxemia is a condition where too many protein by-products 'stay' in the body. And you know they're there by smelling a meat-eater's breath. By looking at his white-covered tongue and his face which becomes a swollen pudding pie. (Typical old age in a meat-eating country involves all meat-eaters looking and smelling alike. PUFFY and rotten.) In poor countries where there is little or no animal protein taken, everybody stays willowy for life. Instinctively, 3rd world natives combine several vegetarian proteins which have incomplete amino acids, to get a complete amino combo and in these countries, old people retain the facial features of their youth. There is no swelling up. Their bodies are lithe, active and healthy at 90. As excess protein causes calcium excretion and osteoporosis, these meat-free peasants also keep their bones. So there is definitely motive to 'cut down' on animal protein consumption or eradicate it completely and, like G.B. Shaw, take B-12 supplements.The body 'accepts' non-animal source protein (missing some of the amino acids) as protein quite happily if it the partial aminos are carefully combined. Beans do not have all the amino acids, but add corn tortillas and they do. Vegetables don't have all the amino acids, but add melted, clarified butter and they do. (The bible on this kind of eating is "Diet for a Small Planet" by Frances Moore Lappe, available from Ballantine Books "Friends of the Earth" series, or by request, at your local library. Also every healthfood store in America has it on the rack in inexpensive paper-back. Vegetarian proteins are user-friendly at both ends. At source, they do not deplete the land the way cattle do. (You feed a cow ten thousand pounds of grains which could feed a thousand people, and end up with protein for only 50 people, hence the cow is not a feasible protein machine for the Malthusian, crowded 21st century.) --and vegie proteins are user-friendly at the consumption end as they promote totally toxin-free eating hence less medical bills and more health and rejuvenation. You perhaps suspected that eating flesh had a toxic downside, no? You have only to smell the stuff as it passes from your body 12 hours later, as compared to a vegie casserole which smells the same going in and going out. There is a certain amount of ROT in flesh foods and your body is forced to 'inhale' that rot from the colon (where absorption takes place,) just when the mixture is at its most pernicious! Does it seem logical to you? THE DIET; Whole grains (especially the high protein like quinoa or millet) combined with salads, sprouts, avocados, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and between meals, fruits and once or twice a week, (no more, for it's high in fat, and clogs colon,) raw, whole milk or milk products like home-made yogurt as all of these things are storage receptacles for solar energy and fountains of mysterious vital curative powers which we call vitamins. And if you can get a 30$ juicer at the discount store, let's add raw juiced celery, carrots, parsley, beet mixtures. WILL I LIKE EATING THIS WAY? It will be the adventure of your lifetime and make you famous to boot. Your Vegie Burger will be succulent. Your sandwich spread made of sesame and garbanzo, (called 'hummous' in the middle East), will be tasty, thrilling and make you the talk of the town. Your party meals of savory vegie casseroles served with green salads will make your pals swoon. You will start a food co-op, a baking circle, a vegie social club and common garden and through all these fun, new activities meet other higher minded people. Plus, these foods require less trips to the grocery, take the same time as meat cookery, and can be stored easily and unfrozen at time of need. They are all 'from scratch' hence less costly than supermarket food. Lastly, you get 6 meals a day, not 3. WHOPPEEE! WHAT HERBS AND VITAMINS DO I NEED? To heal an over-insulinating pancreas, quite a few and they aren't things available at drug stores. They have neither the full spectrum of available products, and what they have isn't of good enough quality. You must go to the healthfood store to get mixtures of chromium, MEGA-Vitamin B Complex, particularly pantothenic acid and B6, Zinc, Vitamin C, minerals Magnesium, Potassium. Vitamin E, Brewer's Yeast or Algae, spirulina or blue green brand. Take them before meals. All of these are blood sugar factors. Most healthfood stores carry a good mixture which they call GTF or Glucose Tolerance Factor. Try it several times a day.
Additional treatment for the PANCREAS- Castor oil pack, heat oil, put on cotton fabric or cheesecloth, lay over pancreas which is just beneath sternum bone in that depression that is the solar plexus. Put hot water bottle there, watch TV.
To heal your pancreas, eat jerusalem artichokes, called sunchokes, in salads. Between meals, eat raw blueberries. Power food additives like seaweed, kelp, dandelion, garlic, and onion are also incorporated into the salads or savory vegie dishes. Pancreas toning juices are: stringbean/Brussel Sprout juice in your carrot /celery mix juice.
Then, with meals, take all these Herbs: Encapsulate them yourself as it's cheaper: Golden seal, juniper berries, uva ursi leaves, huckleberry leaves, mullein leaves, comfrey root, yarrow flowers, garlic bulb, cayenne, dandelion root, marshmallow root, buchu leaves, bistort root, licorice root.
If you've been on a lousy diet high in de-nutrified, processed foods, with shelf life (really shelf death, as anything that keeps is already dead.) or have a lifelong sugar habit, have used coke of either legal or illegal brand, and have used caffeine, you'll need to rejuvenate the ADRENALS. Try: licorice, safflower flowers, dandelion root, horseradish, hawthorne.
You can get these directly from nature or herb suppliers by looking at ads in vegetarian magazines. Another source recommends: Adrenal complex, made of freeze-dried adrenals, Juniper cedar berries, Mexican wild yam, and Mexican Copalquin.
Sleep longer, get rid of stress which ruins pancreas most of all. Make SLEEP PRODUCING TEA: passionflower leaves, skullcap, chamomile, hops, valerian simmered into herb tea, taken several hours before bedtime to put you OUT early. Keep a pot by the bed to drink all night, to keep you down and out a full ten hours. Sleep restores us, heals and 'youthens' us.
The fun, the friends, the intellectual kick isn't the only thrill you're going to get. The first day you eat this way you are going to feel l8 again. That's the payoff. And when you give this diet to hypoglycemia friends (I can show you how to read the symptom of this disease in the palm of the hand) and you see them perk up, and double their work output and creativity, -you're going to get a happy, spiritual high like nothing else you ever had.
So, get the yellow pages, find a real healthfood store, not a GNC pill-pushing store, although they do have some of the vitamins and herbs. Get all the free literature, giveaway magazines at your HFS. Read Dr. Paavo Airola's "HYPOGLYCEMIA, A Better Approach," from which all above information was taken. Also, Dr.Bernard Jensen's many books on herbal healing, iridology (diagnosing thru eye's iris.) Read "You are all Sanpaku" and "Sugar Blues", by William Dufty, two macrobiotic classic texts. At your healthfood store you will find bulletin boards full of local healers, lecture groups. Attend. Learn how to heal this disease and every other condition. Keep notes. Consult your notes to read friends. Read books on the subject of Hypoglycemia and empty information into your notebook or computer hard disc. Read eye iris w. Dr. Jensen's book on iridology for beginners, (3$) using magnifier and penlight. This is easy. A spot on the 'middle' 7 o'clock position on the right eye indicates pancreas stress. To find cure for any disease, there are textbooks, schools and lecturers on the subject of holistic healing. In your library it's the books on the 612/613 shelf. But the best books of all are at healthfood store or metaphysical book store.
If your pancreas leads you into the New Age, it's an ill wind that blows NO good! Be glad it happened! Now, open a notebook or computer file, store the main herbs, foods, healing tricks in it under HYPOGLY' and when you meet someone who has little red, angry dots in palm, on life line, like grains of sugar, the diagnostician's sign of this disease, step in and cure them! Tell them that healing, JUDGEMENT & ENERGY can be achieved through a POWER DIET.
The idea is, no foods toxic with pesticide, chem. fertilizer, no concentrated carbs, i.e. Sugar in any form, no packaged, canned 'inert' foods which clog, fill you so you don't eat the POWER FOODS that have mother nature's magic solar factor and give ZIP. The difference between a canned peach and a real one is what we're talking about.
Most people lose magic & miss POWER, WEALTH, LOVE. You won't. Your destiny is to be adored, healthy, wealthy, kids too, powerful, with a happy family. Most of us are graveyards with legs, aging quicker than we should from eating dead bodies, having lower energy than we'd wish, semi-ADDICTED to junk foods. The time of this planet's physical, mental, spiritual blossoming has come. You want to get on the PATH? Diet is the Aladdin's lamp that gives you your wishes. Want to be positive and on top of it? Create CAUSES. DRIVE to Super Market once a week, shop from your "LIST A", then to Healthfood Store and get stuff available there, which is on another list.
Eat a few oz. of MEAT (if it's real, not nitrate poisoned) OR some cooked devitalized foods (steamed broccoli) with a raw VITAL SALAD IN SAME MEAL. Use olive oil, not any other kind.
As things stand now you're only partially doing what you could be doing to be powerful, wealthy, joyful, talented, busy, with FULL ENERGY, ATTRACTING LOVE i.e.DAILY meals of SUPER POWER FOODS AND AVOIDANCE OF empty calorie-fillers which can't be in the house. You have to have your FULL HUNGER for power foods. Even a wee junk SNACK is no good. It's getting in the WAY of what the POWER FOODS you SHOULD have been eating that moment. So, when you want a snack, make it the POWER form of that food. Nuts untoasted. Sweets as raw fruit.
When you eat flesh, remember, next day you're tired, don't know true energy and power. That's one price tag. Another? SOME meats, babies that suffer like veal, lamb, make you depressed. FISH makes you THIRSTY as they die desiring water. NEVER eat red meat, organ meat, too high in chol. Gives heart disease. All Flesh foods should be steamed, boiled, baked, never FRIED & always eaten wi. GREENS & real garlic. Never heat oils. Keep oil in fridge full time. Avoid milk with added milk solids; get real goat's milk. As you're near a lot of farms, get the real thing from ANIMALS, fresh, unpasteurized. CANCER only started in USA when we started pasteurizing, Anyway, call me anytime, I'll gladly go into the power-producing secrets I learned in Hollywood, where my friend's healer to the stars. Meanwhile, there are two places to shop: SUPER MARKET and HEALTHFOOD STORE. Get boxed frozen vegies at super market where it's cheap but do check the organic ones at the healthfood store. Compare prices. You can get hummous (garbanzo tahini sandwich spread) everywhere now. Ditoo sprouted grain bread. Only healthfood store has organic romaine (or your garden might), spinach, sunchokes, water cress, tofu, always get raw not pasteurized honey, ORGANIC P-nut butter's good in moderation, get cage free happy chicken eggs, or keep your own chickens, they're a delightful animal. I live with one. She sits by my head as I write this. Eat/juice/steam organic carrots* (14 times the minerals of super market carrots); celery, parsley are required weekly for your soups, sandwiches. Get SOBA noodles* (these are made of buckwheat, are great in soups). Get millet, quinoa, brown basmati rice* raw almonds, oh and BULGAR WHEAT and BARLEY, fabulously good for you. Always get big jugs of OLIVE OIL, keep fridged. Get dried unsulphured pears/apricot, popcorn for popping treat. Get raisins, whole oats, raw cream, goat milk w. no milk solids added, organic broccoli SESAME OIL Chile Sesame Oil for soba unsalted butter (raw, organic) garlic/onions, curry (powd/paste) helps make a group of vegies taste fantastic on top of basmati rice! NON-Preservative corn TORTILLAS beans, garlic-jack cheese, cilantro, garlic, lemon. 100% apple juice, NOT from concentrate Grape/berry extract 4-water FAMILIA muesli (Cereal)TOFU spreads (like tofu 'egg' salad) mineral water, FRUIT with no poisonous sprays on 'em Shitake Mushrooms for soups, tofu cookery. Fruit with skins we do eat like grapes, berries, apples, peaches get at HFS. Pesticides are on ALL fruits) NEW AGE ADDITIVES: algae, kyo-green, spirulina taken wi. raw vegie juice. THINGS YOU WILL NEVER EAT AGAIN: hydrogenated bakery items, sugar-sweets, breads except 100% sprouted grain; PASTA, margarine, soft drinks, organ meats, red meat, pork, ham, corned beef, salted deli meats, wi. nitrates. (fresh, red meat occas. if with dark green salad)
USE MODERATELY: EGGS, 1 egg has 4 times the cholesterol as a serving of ice cream! My one chicken gives me all I dare eat.
AVOID: SALT, BLACK PEPPER, vinegar, pre-prepared salted foods, chips. Cutting out starches means no diabetes, heart disease. You can disintegrate that plaque that starts in our veins and plaque is fully built up by the American diet, by our twenties. Fish, chicken meat use moderately. Lamb/Veal has to much emotional suffering in it, fish too. The lamb is ripped from his mother, he's a little baby. The veal is too. Their suffering gives humans depression, panic.
IN RESTAURANTS ORDER: CHINESE: Broccoli, Greens, TOFU w. black mushrooms. (shitake). A second dish would be broccoli. In JAP: SOBA, in MEXICAN: corn tortillas, salsa, beans; ITALIAN: restaurants, you get salad, broccoli, mozzarella marinara. German, Polish or Middle European eat cole slaw, salads, vegsoup. American cafes: baked potato avoiding the CENTER OF TUBER, that white circle, eat w. dark green (not white) salad. At Milk deli, vegie chicken livers made of lentil/nuts, & coleslaw. MEAT DELI- turkey breast, white fish, cole-slaw
When you eat this way you never wrinkle, stay slim. Everybody adores you. You're never sick, depressed, panicky, anxious. GORGEOUS people want to know hire & pay you well. You get lucky. Find positive food rituals that blast away your addictions. Addictions are simply a negative ritual, an attempt to 'get high.' A worthy motive, an ignorant mode. Use a LIFE enhancing ritual to connect with the light. Eat an orange at your altar affirming "God and I are one. I am eating the Sun. This orange has the life force that is in a thousand suns, now it is in me." Make your dining table an altar. Don't say grace. Eat gracefully!
